Overview
Ret/Druid is a sustain comp built on two independent CC schools and a healer that is very hard to fully lock down. The druid keeps Lifebloom/Rejuv rolling on the Ret and stays mobile, while the Ret provides constant Crusader Strike/Judgement pressure plus Repentance and Hammer of Justice. Blessing of Freedom keeps both partners un-snared and Blessing of Sacrifice bleeds threat off the druid when melee trains it, so you rarely lose the healer to a swap.
The win is patience: stack Cyclone, Roots, Bash, Repentance and Hammer of Justice on the enemy healer until a kill window opens with no counter-heal. The ceiling is capped by mana — the druid has a small pool and loses long Mana Burn games — but against melee and burst teams the layered control and un-peelable healing grind them out.
Win condition
Chain-CC the enemy healer off a kill — Cyclone or Repentance the healer while the Ret lands Avenging Wrath + Hammer of Justice on the target, so the burst lands with zero counter-heal.
Strengths
- +Two CC schools stacked — Cyclone/Roots/Bash plus Repentance and Hammer of Justice
- +HoT healing plus Blessing of Sacrifice/Freedom makes the Ret nearly un-trainable
- +Rolls melee cleaves that can never kill the protected, kiting druid
Weaknesses
- −Druid's small mana pool folds to Mana Burn and long games
- −Repentance breaks on any damage — sloppy CC chains fall apart fast
Cooldown timeline
Druid pre-HoTs the Ret and opens control; when a kill window appears, Cyclone the enemy healer, Ret drops Repentance to extend the lockout, then pops Avenging Wrath + trinket + Hammer of Justice on the target. Blessing of Freedom keeps the Ret on target through snares; Blessing of Sacrifice and Barkskin cover the druid if it gets swapped, and Innervate refuels between attempts.
Positioning
Druid kites wide and uses pillars to break line of sight on casters; the Ret bodyblocks and peels melee off the druid with Hammer of Justice and Repentance. Keep the two partners apart enough that AoE and cleave can't pressure both, and never let the druid get cornered — its survival is the whole game plan.
Vs. the meta
Mana Burn on the druid and DoTs through HoTs beat you in a long game, so you cannot grind them. Repentance the priest, Cyclone the felhunter or priest during the burst, and all-in the warlock with Avenging Wrath before your mana runs dry — a fast kill is the only path.
The rogue trains the druid while the priest Mana Burns and dispels your CC. Blessing of Sacrifice and Freedom to peel the rogue, Bash/Repentance to buy kite time, and swap pressure onto the rogue when he blows cooldowns — force the priest to heal so he can't Burn.
Gear requirements
- ▸Ret: resilience + a big two-hander so the Avenging Wrath window actually kills
- ▸Druid: resilience + all the mana/int it can carry to survive long games
Tips
- •Layer your CC — Cyclone into Repentance into Hammer of Justice keeps the healer locked far longer than any single school.
- •Repentance breaks on damage; call it clearly so the Ret doesn't judge the target you just CC'd.
- •Blessing of Sacrifice is your anti-swap button — use it the moment melee trains the druid.
- •Watch the druid's mana; you can't win a long Burn game, so commit to kill windows instead of stalling.
