Overview
This is the ranged answer to the 5s burst meta. Your win is a stacked cooldown dump — Bloodlust, Elemental Mastery Chain Lightning, and Bestial Wrath all landing on one target inside a Shadowfury stun — while The Beast Within makes the hunter immune to every trap, fear, and stun the enemy tries to peel with. Two healers mean you can commit fully on offense without dying to the return burst.
The comp's identity is patience wrapped around a violent spike. Unlike a zerg, you are not forced to kill in the first ten seconds; the priest and paladin can hold the line indefinitely on mana, so you set up a clean window, force defensive cooldowns out of the enemy healer, and swing again. Your ceiling is decided by how well the shaman lands Purge and Grounding and how disciplined the hunter is with Aimed Shot's healing cut on the kill target.
Win condition
Pick a cloth or low-armor target and stack everything at once: Bloodlust, then Elemental Mastery into an instant Chain Lightning crit, Bestial Wrath plus The Beast Within so the hunter is unpeelable, and a warlock Shadowfury to lock the target in place. The hunter opens with Aimed Shot to plant the 50% healing reduction, then Kill Command and Arcane Shot pour on while the pet and Chain Lightning finish it. If the enemy healer tries to top the target, the shaman Purges the shield and the warlock fears or Curse-of-Tongues-slows the cast so the kill lands inside the immunity window.
Strengths
- +An 18-second Beast Within window makes the hunter fully CC-immune while pumping — nothing short of los or a bubble stops the pet-and-shot burst.
- +Double healer core (disc priest + holy paladin) means you rarely lose the war of attrition even after the opener trades down.
- +Bloodlust plus Elemental Mastery Chain Lightning stacks a second ranged nuke on top of the hunter, so two targets melt at once.
Weaknesses
- −Once Bestial Wrath, Bloodlust, and Elemental Mastery are spent, your damage falls off a cliff and control comps grind you out.
- −Heavy reliance on a landed kill window — a single Grounding Totem, bubble, or Blessing of Protection on the target resets your whole cooldown investment.
Cooldown timeline
Round start: shaman drops Grounding and Tremor Totems, warlock applies Curse of the Elements. First real go usually comes 15-20 seconds in once the priest has Fear Ward and Power Word: Shield up on the hunter. Fire Bestial Wrath + The Beast Within, Bloodlust, and Elemental Mastery together — this is your one great window every three minutes (Bloodlust) and every two (Bestial Wrath). Aimed Shot's healing debuff refreshes every ten seconds, so keep it rolling on whoever you're pressuring. Hold the warlock's Shadowfury and the paladin's Blessing of Protection as reactive tools for the return burst rather than burning them early.
Positioning
Play as a ranged wall with the hunter and shaman at max range and the warlock slightly forward to land Fear and Shadowfury. Keep the holy paladin and disc priest split across separate pillars so a single Shadowfury or fear chain can't catch both healers — losing one healer collapses the whole attrition plan. The hunter should abuse pillars to force melee into deadzone range, and the shaman must have line of sight on incoming casts to drop Grounding Totem in the enemy's face. Never let all five group tight; caster and melee cleaves will AoE-fear or Chain Lightning your stack.
Vs. the meta
You cannot out-attrition three healers, so you must win the single window. Force one healer's cooldowns with a fake commit, then go for real on a second healer the instant their Blessing of Protection and bubble are down. Have the shaman Purge Power Word: Shield off the kill target every time before the hunter's Aimed Shot, and Curse of Tongues the paladin so cleanses and heals cast slow. If the first two full windows don't produce a kill, you are on their clock — play for a dampening or mana-starve finish and don't overextend the hunter without Beast Within up.
They will try to CC the hunter and grind after your Beast Within expires, so timing is everything — only commit when Bestial Wrath, Bloodlust, and a Shadowfury are all available together. Kill the target inside the immunity window or not at all. Have the warlock's Felhunter Spell Lock and Devour Magic ready to counter their control caster, and split your own healers hard so their fear chains and stun setups can't catch both. Between windows, trade Purges and Mana Burn-style pressure isn't available to you, so bank cooldowns and punish the moment a healer is out of position.
Gear requirements
- ▸Hunter and casters prioritize resilience to survive the enemy's return burst, with the hunter running a high-crit ranged weapon (Crossbow of Relentless Strikes / Sunfury Bow) to make Aimed Shot and Kill Command hit hard.
- ▸Both healers stack mana regen and spell power for the long game — this comp wins attrition, so the priest's and paladin's ability to heal indefinitely matters more than any single big cooldown.
Tips
- •Sync the hunter's Bestial Wrath with the shaman's Elemental Mastery Chain Lightning — one immunity window, two ranged spikes on the same target is what actually secures kills.
- •Keep Aimed Shot rolling for the 50% healing cut; a kill target that can still be fully healed is a wasted cooldown dump.
- •Drop Grounding Totem proactively to eat the enemy's Polymorph, Fear, or a key Shadow Bolt — don't hoard it, its cooldown is short.
- •Split the priest and paladin behind different pillars so no single fear or Shadowfury catches both healers and cracks your attrition game.
