Balance Druid PvE Guide

Balance Druid is a caster-DPS whose signature raid contribution is Improved Faerie Fire (a spell-hit debuff on the boss) and Moonkin Aura (spell crit for the caster group). Your personal DPS comes from Wrath and Starfire, and while Moonkin doesn't top the meters, the Faerie Fire hit debuff and crit aura earn it a caster-group slot.

Overview

You play a Starfire/Wrath rotation with Moonfire and Faerie Fire maintained, choosing your nuke by movement and mana.

Strengths

  • +Improved Faerie Fire = raid spell-hit debuff; Moonkin Aura = group crit
  • +Battle-rez and Innervate utility
  • +Reliable ranged DPS with instant Moonfire on the move

Weaknesses

  • Below top pure-caster personal DPS
  • Mana-hungry; leans on Innervate and crit for regen

Stat priority & caps (raid)

Stat caps (raid)

StatCap
Spell Hit202 rating
  • Spell Hit: 16% cap for a raid boss (+3 levels). Draenei Heroic Presence, Shadow Priest's Misery, and hit talents lower how much you need on gear.

Full gear with usage %, gems and enchants is on the Balance Druid PvE BiS list.

Recommended talent build

48/0/13 · Raid

The deep Balance raid build: Moonkin Form, Force of Nature and Wrath of Cenarius scaling with a Restoration dip for Intensity regen. Brings Moonkin Aura crit to the caster group while keeping enough mana to actually cast.

Single-target rotation

  1. 1Keep Improved Faerie Fire and Moonfire up on the boss; Moonkin Aura active.
  2. 2Starfire as your main nuke; Wrath when you need faster casts/movement.
  3. 3Reach the spell hit cap (accounting for talents/Draenei).
  4. 4Innervate yourself or a healer as assigned; align trinkets with Bloodlust.
  5. 5Insect Swarm if specced, for extra DoT uptime.

Keep Faerie Fire (the raid hit debuff) and Moonfire rolling, then nuke with Starfire. Use instant Moonfire to keep damage up while moving, manage mana with Innervate and crit procs, and provide Moonkin Aura for the caster group. Hit-cap first, then stack spell power and crit.

Best race (PvE)

Taurenhorde

Only option — War Stomp has niche PvE uses and Endurance (+5% health) is pure survivability.

Night Elfalliance

Only option — Quickness (+2% dodge) helps Feral tanking and Shadowmeld has occasional raid utility.

Common mistakes

  • Letting Improved Faerie Fire drop — it's a raid-wide hit debuff you provide.
  • Standing still through movement instead of using instant Moonfire.
  • Ignoring the hit cap.

FAQ

Why bring a Balance Druid?

Improved Faerie Fire (raid spell-hit debuff) and Moonkin Aura (group crit), plus battle-rez and Innervate. It's a utility caster more than a top parser.

Starfire or Wrath?

Starfire is the higher-damage nuke for stationary casting; Wrath is faster and better on movement. Use instant Moonfire to fill gaps.
