Overview
Rogue/Druid is the archetypal "control" comp: two players who between them can keep an opponent stunned, blinded, sapped, and cycloned for a genuinely absurd fraction of the match. The Rogue supplies the pressure and the burst windows; the Druid supplies immortality via instant HoTs, Cyclone, and a bottomless bag of resets. You rarely win in the opener — you win by forcing the enemy into a long game, denying their healer mana and casts, and eventually opening a stun chain nobody can heal through.
The skill ceiling is high because the comp is entirely about tempo and target discipline. A Druid who Cyclones on cooldown and keeps HoTs rolling, plus a Rogue who knows when to swap, when to Blind, and when to Vanish-reset, is one of the safest teams in the bracket. Played sloppily it just stalls forever; played well it grinds down everything short of another comp that can also stall to the enrage-free eternity.
Win condition
You win by attrition converted into a stun chain. The Rogue trains one target with Hemorrhage/Sinister Strike pressure while the Druid Cyclones the enemy healer off their globals and keeps rolling Lifebloom, Rejuvenation and Regrowth on the Rogue. When the enemy healer is low on mana or caught out of position, the Rogue lands Cheap Shot into Kidney Shot, pops Cold Blood + Eviscerate (or a Cold Blood Ambush from a Vanish), and the Druid hard-Cyclones the healer for the full duration so no cross-heal lands. If the target survives, you reset with Vanish and do it again — you have infinitely more patience than they have mana.
Strengths
- +Best-in-class control: Cheap Shot, Kidney Shot, Blind, Sap and Cyclone stack more lockdown than any team can answer
- +Near-infinite resets — Vanish, Preparation, Cloak of Shadows and rolling HoTs let you walk out of any bad opener
- +Long games trend in your favor; the Druid outlasts almost every healer while the Rogue chips a target down
Weaknesses
- −Struggles to close out teams that can also stall forever — drain Warlocks and kiting Mages drag games past your kill windows
- −Low burst without setup; if the Rogue is peeled off the target, damage evaporates and you win only on attrition
Cooldown timeline
Open from stealth with Sap on the off-target, then Cheap Shot the kill target to build the first combo points. Blind is your panic button on an enemy melee peeling the Rogue, or to buy the Druid a drink. Cloak of Shadows sheds a Polymorph, Fear, or a stack of DoTs at will. The Druid pre-HoTs before contact, uses Barkskin under pressure, and saves Nature's Swiftness + Healing Touch for the one heal that has to land now. Around the 60-second mark you'll have Preparation up — bank it to refresh Vanish, Blind, Cold Blood and Evasion for a second, fully-loaded kill attempt. Innervate the Druid the moment mana dips; long games are won by whoever drinks last.
Positioning
Play the pillars religiously — the Druid stays line-of-sight to the Rogue but broken from enemy casters, forcing sheep and fears to be hard-cast around a corner where you can juke or Cloak them. The Rogue lives on the enemy's back, but peels to the Druid the instant a melee or a Cyclone-worthy caster commits to your healer. Never let the Druid get collapsed on in the open; kite through the pillar so incoming melee eats roots and Cyclone while the Rogue re-stuns. Against casters, the Druid's job is to deny casts with Cyclone and body-block LoS, not to out-heal a train.
Vs. the meta
The classic nemesis — they stall as hard as you do and the Felhunter's Spell Lock plus Devour Magic shuts down Cyclone and eats your HoTs. Don't try to out-attrition them; you can't. Force it early: train the Warlock (not the Druid), bait Spell Lock with a fake Cyclone, then hard-Cyclone the Druid off a peel and burst the Warlock through a Kidney Shot with Cold Blood. Cloak of Shadows dumps their entire DoT package and any Fear — use it to reset a stun chain, not defensively. Kill the Warlock or accept a draw.
The Mage kites you into oblivion with Frost Nova, Blink, Ice Block and Polymorph, and every Sheep on the Rogue resets their clock. Stick the Mage relentlessly, Kick and Blind to deny casts, and save Cloak of Shadows to walk out of a Nova or shed a Sheep mid-chain. The Druid must Cyclone the Mage during Ice Block windows so the block is wasted, and pre-emptively HoT through Frostbolt pressure. Open your kill only when the Mage has burned Blink and Block — before that you're just feeding globals.
Gear requirements
- ▸Rogue: max Resilience (Vengeful set) with a fast, high-end offhand and a slow mainhand for Cold Blood Eviscerate/Ambush burst; prioritize AP and hit to punch through Resilience in your stun windows.
- ▸Druid: stack Resilience and as much +Healing and mana/Spirit as the set allows — you're playing the long game, so mp5, Spirit for out-of-combat drinking, and enough stamina to survive a mace-stun train matter more than raw throughput.
Tips
- •Cyclone the healer, not the DPS — a full-duration Cyclone on the enemy healer during your Kidney Shot is what actually secures kills; random Cyclones just reset your own damage.
- •Save Cloak of Shadows for offense as often as defense: shedding a Polymorph or Fear to keep a stun chain alive wins more games than eating it defensively.
- •Bank Preparation for a loaded second attempt — refreshing Vanish + Blind + Cold Blood + Evasion at once turns a failed opener into an unavoidable kill window.
- •Never fight in the open against melee; kite the Druid through a pillar so peelers eat Entangling Roots and lose LoS while the Rogue re-stuns the target.
