Discipline Priest PvP Guide

Discipline is the premier arena healer Priest spec. Pain Suppression (a strong damage-reduction cooldown) plus Power Infusion, a huge shield, and instant Flash Heals let a Disc Priest keep a pressured partner alive through burst that would kill any other healer. In double-DPS and caster cleaves, the Disc Priest is the glue.

Overview

Your toolkit is proactive: shield before the swap, dispel the DoT/root that matters, and use Fear/Psychic Scream to buy time. Mana efficiency and juking interrupts are the skills that decide long games.

Strengths

  • +Pain Suppression + shields survive burst no other healer can
  • +Power Infusion is a huge offensive cooldown for your partner
  • +Mass Dispel, Fear and Mana Burn bring real utility

Weaknesses

  • Squishy when focused and out of cooldowns; no self-Freedom vs slows
  • Interrupt- and mana-burn-vulnerable if you don't juke

Resilience490 rating
  • Resilience: No hard cap — ~350 is the 2v2 entry point, 490+ is competitive. Reduces crit chance, crit damage and DoT damage taken.

Recommended talent build

41/20/0 · Raid

The 41/20 Discipline build: Power Infusion and Pain Suppression — the two buttons that define the spec — over full mana talents, with Holy filled to Improved Healing for single-target work. Doubles as the arena disc skeleton with minor swaps.

Healing & cooldown priority

  1. 1Pre-shield (Power Word: Shield) the target being trained; keep Weakened Soul in mind.
  2. 2Instant Flash Heal / Penance-style topping; big heals only when safe from interrupt.
  3. 3Pain Suppression on your partner (or self) to survive a burst swap.
  4. 4Fear / Psychic Scream to peel melee; Mass Dispel key magic (Ice Block, DoTs, HoTs).
  5. 5Power Infusion your DPS for a kill window; trinket + Fear Ward against Fear chains.

Play proactively — shield and pre-heal before the damage lands, and bank Pain Suppression for the real swap. Juke interrupts with a fake cast, LoS casters, and don't let a Warlock/Priest mana-burn you dry. Power Infusion is both a throughput and offensive tool: use it to force a kill when the enemy healer is CC'd.

Best race (PvP)

Undeadhorde

Will of the Forsaken is a hard counter to Fear/Sleep/Charm — mandatory for a PvP priest surviving lock/priest control.

Dwarfalliance

Fear Ward and Stoneform (removes bleed/poison/disease) are excellent defensive utility for an arena priest.

Common mistakes

  • Holding Pain Suppression too long and losing the partner.
  • Casting into an obvious interrupt instead of juking first.
  • Forgetting Fear Ward / trinket against Fear-heavy comps.

FAQ

Is Discipline the best PvP Priest spec?

Yes — Pain Suppression, shields and Power Infusion make Disc the standard arena healing Priest over Holy or Shadow.

How do I avoid getting mana-burned out?

LoS the burner, spread from Felhunters, don't over-cast, and use Dispersion-style patience — bank cooldowns to survive the burn window.
